00 fresh. The longer they sit or steep, the more muted the flavors become and the intended flavor is gone. "It's like coffee, in a way", Richard explained, "when you add cream to coffee, it dilutes the flavor, changes it. It doesn't taste the same as just a cup of black coffee. Steeping does the same thing to eliquid." We've established that if steeping is needed, the creators do it in the lab. We have also established that most flavors are meant by design to be vaped as-is. So, is there ever a reason to steep your eliq- uid? Sure, why not? One of the many benefits of vaping is the community is largely supportive of one another. You may get a flavor all the vapers are raving about and you hate it. Steeping is an option to change an eliquid you hate into something you don't feel is a waste of money. "Tobacco flavors are notorious for taking longer to fully develop than other flavors. Steeping can be beneficial with those juices to adjust for personal taste." says Banaski of Master Mix eliquid. "Now as far as an individual steeping their own juice at home, I have noticed a few things." Says Pink Spot's manager, Shaine Lane. "Generally flavors with a creamy base will get creamier, flavors with menthol will develop a stronger mentholated feeling, and flavors with citrus or cinnamon will have more bite. Now when I say "steeping juice at home", I don't mean keeping a bottle longer than normal and expecting it to taste different." If you have found yourself in the afore mentioned situation and have a bottle of eliquid that you just hate, steeping could be just what you need or it could make it worse, something die-hard steepers often forget. If you do not dig the flavors in the eliq- uid, making them a deeper, richer flavor isn't nec- essarily going to help. Steeping doesn't change tobacco to chocolate cake. It changes the flavor, but the basics are still there. "I have found the best way to bring about change in a flavor is to leave the bottle open on a shelf or in a cupboard, and about once every few days, squeeze the air out of the bottle and shake up the mixture." Says Lane. "After a week or so, test the flavor and you can get a good idea of the direction it is headed, and whether or not you want to con- tinue the steeping process." Steeping eliquid is purely a matter of personal taste. Customer reviews are great, informative and useful but they are also just a personal opinion. If they are firm believers in the steeping myth and steeping eliquid the creator designed to be vaped immediately, you may not even be getting an accu- rate review. If you're curious about the changes that could happen in your juice, ask the manufac- turer. The eliquid manufacturer have spent months or even years developing these flavors and are the most reliable source of information about their product. Ask them about the effects of light, time and air on the particular eliquid. Tweaking your eliq- uid to find something you love is fine. The ability to make it your own is part of the reason we all became vapers but don't feel pressured to learn how to steep or feel your missing out on some- thing. You're not.
